EMDR Trauma Therapy
Expanding Mental Healthcare in Africa: EMDR Project
About the Program
Cheerful Givers is committed to expanding access to mental healthcare across sub-Saharan Africa through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This internationally recognized trauma treatment is a powerful tool in addressing PTSD, anxiety, and other mental health challenges affecting vulnerable populations.
Why EMDR?
-
EMDR is a scientifically backed therapy proven to help individuals heal from trauma. - It can be implemented in group settings, making it ideal for communities with limited access to individualized therapy.
-
Our work builds on previous EMDR training efforts in Africa, with a long-term vision for sustainable mental health solutions.
Our Plan:
1. Training Local Professionals
-
We partner with EMDR Center of the Rockies and experienced clinicians to equip African counselors, mental health professionals, and community leaders with EMDR training.
2. On-the-Ground Implementation
-
Training will be held in Rwanda for counselors from Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, and any other countries where there is interest or demand.
-
Integration of group EMDR therapy protocols to maximize impact.
3. Sustainability & Growth
-
We aim to establish a long-term network of trained professionals who can continue the work independently.
-
Continued partnership with churches, ministries, and local organizations to provide ongoing mental health support.
